Why Ratings Matter in Security Services

Unlike many industries, private security services are both regulated and reputation dependent. Clients and the public expect officers to be competent, lawful, and dependable. Licensed and well-reviewed officers contribute directly to safety outcomes. An active Guard Card isn’t just paperwork, it’s proof of compliance with state law. Unlicensed officers expose agencies and clients to legal liabilities. With verifiable reputation ratings, ensures trust.

Reliability

Reliability measures how consistently an officer can be counted on to fulfill the core commitments of the post, primarily showing up, being on time, and maintaining coverage stability so the client and agency are not put at risk by staffing gaps. Reliability is usually evidenced through observable, trackable behaviors, and are patterned over time.

Trustworthiness / Integrity

Trustworthiness / Integrity measures an officer’s honesty, ethical conduct, and commitment to doing the right thing, especially when no one is watching. It reflects whether an officer can be trusted with authority, access, information, and responsibility without compromising clients, coworkers, or the organization. This metric evaluates character and ethical behavior, not technical skill. An officer may be highly skilled operationally, but without integrity, they represent a significant risk to clients, agencies, and the profession. Trustworthiness / Integrity is one of the six standardized CPSO performance metrics and plays a critical role in an officer’s long-term professional reputation

Report Writing

Report Writing measures how well an officer documents events and activities in a way that is clear, accurate, timely, complete, and professionally written. Strong report writing protects the client, the officer, and the company by creating reliable documentation that can be used for operations, management decisions, client communication, and (when applicable) legal review. CPSO’s rubric emphasizes several practical dimensions of reporting quality, completeness, accuracy, clarity, objectivity, and structure

Appearance

Appearance measures how professionally an officer presents themselves while on duty. It reflects compliance with uniform standards, grooming requirements, and overall professional demeanor as perceived by clients, the public, and supervisors. Appearance is not about personal style or physical traits, it is about professional image, readiness, and respect for the role. CPSO considers appearance a visible indicator of discipline, credibility, and attention to detail

Customer Service

Customer Service measures how effectively an officer interacts with clients, tenants, employees, visitors, and the public while performing assigned duties. It reflects the officer’s ability to remain professional, respectful, calm, and solution-oriented, even in stressful or confrontational situations. Customer Service does not mean being passive or compromising safety, it means exercising authority with professionalism, communication skill, and emotional control.

Situational Awareness

Situational Awareness measures an officer’s ability to observe, assess, anticipate, and appropriately respond to their environment. It reflects how well an officer understands what is happening around them, recognizes potential risks or changes, and takes timely, appropriate action to prevent incidents or mitigate harm. Situational awareness is not passive observation, it is active perception combined with judgment. CPSO considers it a critical safety and performance competency
